solving CAPTCHAs to transcribe books?

Old article, but still a good read!

In short, reCAPTCHA has found a nifty way to crowdsource book transcriptions. When users solve a CAPTCHA through reCAPTCHA, the software will give users two words: one with a known answer (the control word) and one where the OCR software wasn’t quite sure what the word was. Once a certain number of users have solved the suspicious word with the same result, it becomes a control word itself and the OCR software can learn this word.

Is it just us, or does this sound like a conversation between a Finnish person trying to order a non-alcohol beverage and a bartender?

pastebin

if you are looking for some tv/movie/ etc, a good solution is to do a search at pastebin for it.

a quick little test today gave us the possibility to download ALF’s all seasons… Or perhaps  the complete Mac Gyver series? No … we will leave you with a real good suggestion.

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC (2009)
summary:
Ondi Timoner's documentary chronicles a decade
in the life of Internet pioneer Josh Harris,
who instigated an "artificial society" experiment
in which more than 100 artists lived under 24-hour
surveillance in an underground compound in New York
City. After FEMA broke up the project, Harris turned
the cameras on himself and his girlfriend. Timoner's
provocative film (winner of the Grand Jury Prize:
Documentary at Sundance) includes clips from Harris's
projects as well as her own original footage.

Shady Reshipping Centers Exposed, Part I

Great story about what might happen if you get your card stolen that slashdot.org picked up on. Well worth a read!

Last week, authorities in New York indicted more than 100 people suspected of being part of a crime ring that used forged credit cards to buy and resell an estimated $13 million worth of Apple products and other electronics overseas. In this post, I offer readers a behind-the-scenes look at a somewhat smaller but similar organized crime operation that uses stolen credit card numbers to purchase and launder high-end electronics.

did you miss it??… Lulzsec & Anonymous state to be in “Open War” against .gov’s & fat cats

Lulzsec and Anonymous have declared open war against all governments, banks and big corporations in the world. They are calling all “hackers” in the world to unite. Their objective? Wrrrld peace… Or something:

[quote style="boxed"]Salutations Lulz Lizards,

As we’re aware, the government and whitehat security terrorists across the world continue to dominate and control our Internet ocean. Sitting pretty on cargo bays full of corrupt booty, they think it’s acceptable to condition and enslave all vessels in sight. Our Lulz Lizard battle fleet is now declaring immediate and unremitting war on the freedom-snatching moderators of 2011.
Welcome to Operation Anti-Security (#AntiSec) – we encourage any vessel, large or small, to open fire on any government or agency that crosses their path. We fully endorse the flaunting of the word “AntiSec” on any government website defacement or physical graffiti art. We encourage you to spread the word of AntiSec far and wide, for it will be remembered. To increase efforts, we are now teaming up with the Anonymous collective and all affiliated battleships.
Whether you’re sailing with us or against us, whether you hold past grudges or a burning desire to sink our lone ship, we invite you to join the rebellion. Together we can defend ourselves so that our privacy is not overrun by profiteering gluttons. Your hat can be white, gray or black, your skin and race are not important. If you’re aware of the corruption, expose it now, in the name of Anti-Security.

Top priority is to steal and leak any classified government information, including email spools and documentation. Prime targets are banks and other high-ranking establishments. If they try to censor our progress, we will obliterate the censor with cannonfire anointed with lizard blood.

It’s now or never. Come aboard, we’re expecting you…
History begins today.
Lulz Security
